Sport-Specific Athletic Testing ExamplesEvery sport has a set of objective measures of athleticism that are used to evaluate players wishing to move to the next level. Some of them are very narrow and sport-specific, such as the speed at which a baseball can be thrown by a pitcher. Others such as vertical jump height and shuttle run time are used in many different sports. Knowing the athletic metrics that are generally used in your sport can help you set targets for your training program and to evaluate your progress. When coupled with information on average scores by athletes in a specific group (e.g. basketball players who are seniors in high school), you can get an idea of how you compare with others in your sport. The purpose of this page is to give you examples of these measures on a sport-by-sport basis. Click on a link to learn more!
