Dates |

Wednesday - Friday: 3 days |
Times |

This camp is a great way to get your child started in softball. No previous experience is necessary. This camp is targeted to players who have very little, if any, experience playing softball. All basic offensive and defensive skills will be taught, including throwing, catching fielding (grounders & fly balls), hitting, basic base running skills, and position play.
Players will be divided by skill and age for the camp as much as possible during the camp. Number of separate groups depends on the number of players that register. |
Instructors |
This program will be led by local Youth Fastpitch Coach Walker Damge. Coach Damge has played competitive baseball and competitive men’s softball for a combined 20 years.
Coach Damge currently is an assistant director of the FC Stars Modified B/C Level Softball Program. Last Summer, he was a travel team coach for the Stars. The year before that, Coach Damge was the head coach for a Modified B/C Softball team with the Fort Collins Stars. His team won the Indian Peaks League 14U Championship.
Prior to joining the FC Stars Coaching Staff, Coach Damge was a softball coach for the City of Fort Collins Summer Softball Leagues. This has included coaching elementary, junior high school and early high school teams. In 2009, he also was the lead instructor for the softball coaches’ training sessions run by the City of Fort Collins. |
Equipment |
- Players need to bring their own softball glove
- Players should come in 'softball' attire: softball pants and tee-shirt. A sweatshirt is also a good idea for warming up at the beginning of each session.
- All campers should bring a water bottle containing PLAIN WATER. Please write your camper's name on the container. No other beverages, food, or gum is allowed on the playing field.

The Softball Facility at The Edge
A Full-size Indoor Diamond is the centerpiece of The Edge when it is configured for baseball and softball. A floor-to-ceiling, heavy duty vinyl divider curtain creates a 120' x 122' -area for the full-size diamond. Standard bases, available on site, are anchored into sleeves at whatever distance is needed for the team using the field, from 50' to 90'. There is plenty of room to 'play behind the base' no matter what base length is used.
A standard pitcher's plate, also anchored into a sleeve, is set at the required distance.
The foul lines and batter's boxes/catcher area are permanently inlaid in the turf. Dugouts with benches and bat racks are provided. Seating for spectators is provided in the lobby for practice and behind chain link in 'center field' for games.
On the other side of the divider curtain, three 51' drop-down tunnels, fully netted, are available for live-hitting or throwing. Four additional 75' throwing lanes are also available as a bull pen area or for 'long toss. In a separate area next to the field, there are 4 permanent batting cages equipped with pitching machines. Altogether, a total of 11 individual practice areas are available for hitting or throwing in addition to the full-sized infield.
Coach Turtle Thomas, Head Baseball Coach at Florida International University, a perennial NCAA baseball power, has given several sessions of hitting clinics at The Edge over the past five years. His comment on the facility is: "Of all the indoor baseball/softball facilities I've used for my clinic, this is the best in the country!"
